Farm Journal

Hello from your farm!
We are sending a warm note of gratitude to our winter share members! Thank you for choosing to eat locally and support year-round growing in the midwest.
As we spot the garlic growing in the field (first picture), we want also to send another hearty thank you to those who supported the farm by signing up for their 2023 farm shares!

We know that choosing local food might not be as convenient as the grocery store, but this choice matters to our small, sustainable family-scale Lake County business. Your choice also matters to our staff who are paid a fair, living wage and benefits. Your choice matters to an ecosystem of wildlife, soils, and water that benefits from contentious coexistence and care.
As the daily pace is quickening, we set our alarms earlier and earlier each day and ask for help from our boys. Last week, Owen helped Jeff move huge potting soil bags into indoor spaces to thaw, while Gavin helped inventory and sort thousands of seeds.
Our field crew members will be returning to the farm in a couple of weeks, too. Besides welcoming back several crew members, we'll be joined by a few new crew members as well. They will help us fill this greenhouse with green, as well perform bed preparations in the hoophouse, and work on building projects to prepare for the sale of spring plants.
In the meantime, Linus the cat is also getting his digging paws ready for spring, much to our dismay. We can hardly blame him. There's a lot to look forward to at this time of year!

Enjoy the flavors of the season and here's to sunny days ahead!

Warmly,
The Miller Family (Jeff, Jen, Owen & Gavin)
Note from the Farm Kitchen
This week's frozen produce includes a variety of washed, chopped and in some cases (i.e., Italian green beans) blanched produce. All frozen produce is packed without any additions (e.g., spices, salt, oil) so the produce can be flexible and used in a variety of dishes.
