A friendly reminder....
Farm CSA Shares are available!  Friends of the farm and CSA members know us best, and we'd appreciate your help in spreading the word!  We have Vegetable, Fruit and Egg Shares available from the spring through the fall season.  There's more  information is available on the Prairie Wind website or don't hesitate to give us a call at the farm.  Thank you!

Happy New Year!  When its wintry outside, our time is spent with a cup of coffee, behind our farm desks preparing for our 2017 season.  We thought we'd share a few things we're looking ahead to this upcoming year.

Firstly, we're looking forward to the arrival of our new flock of chickens this spring.  While we've had chickens on the farm for years, this season we're welcoming a larger flock and we're improving the chickens' housing.  We're building a new structure that will offer the birds more access to sunshine, fresh air and green ground, as well as safe places to lay eggs (for Egg Shares!) and sleep at night.

Secondly, we're looking forward to seeding our spring crops.

We start off our seedings in the greenhouse with our farm crew members in late February.   This winter, we invested in a new seeders for our tractor.  When the ground dries from the winter snow and spring rains, we will get our tractor mounted seeders into the field so we can directly seed crops into the ground. These seeders will help better space seeds which makes us efficient within less space, and help us to better cultivate (weed) these crops.  All of this means healthier plants, happier farmers and better crops for our farm CSA shares and farmers market.

Thirdly, we're looking forward to introducing you to the newest member of our family.  Though winter mornings are generally quiet, the newest member of our family is keeping winter lively! Winston is our five month old puppy, whom we adopted late last fall.  We're using the winter time to train him on the basics of farm life.  He loves our long field walks to explore the state of our different farm fields, and he gets plenty of exercise entertaining the goats outside their pen.  He looks forward to the spring activity on the farm, as he loves activity and friendly faces.

Finally, we're all looking forward to seeing you again soon!
